WHERE: Varies parks around Mandurah, Western Australia. You will be notified the week before exactly where.
This is the start of your new life with your reactive dog.
With this course you will be able to have a well behaved, very happy and confident dog that doesn’t pull on the lead and you can easily walk past other dogs. You'll even be able to even go for a coffee confidently, yep you heard right, all in just 8 sessions over 7 weeks !
Many reactive dogs really don't get to live the life they deserve, here is where we help you gain the confidence and skills you need so you and your dog can live a better life together.
In this course you will learn how dogs learn and think, how to use markers, the importance of timing in dog training, how to stop reactivity, how to help your dog be calmer and happier, how to deal with off leash dogs and your legal responsibility if something does go wrong. We also teach you how to prevent and stop a dog fight, how to help your dog focus on you, how genetics impacts your dog’s behavior and how to help your dog deal with their environment in a better more productive way, plus much more!
Your dog will be able to do all the basic commands like:
LEAVE IT,
SIT,
DOWN,
STOP
PLAY WITH RULES for control during excitement
the HEEL command for amazing control in any environment
Your dog will learn to stay on their PLACE so you can answer the door in peace,
they will also learn LOOSE LEASH walking
and how to listen in high distraction environments with dogs and people in close proximity.
RECALLS - You will learn how to have reliable recalls on a long line around distraction.
For Off Leash Results: Add our Off Leash Extras Course. There you will learn how to have complete control of your reactive dog off leash, so they can live the life they was meant to with freedom and fun, all while you are still in control. So make sure you add this on to your course. (See below for more information.)
FREE 1 hour Private session is included in the price to help you work on anything you would like during the course ( Mandurah area, other areas may incur a travel fee).
Please note: the first session goes for around 2 hours and the other sessions for around 1hr ( may go a little over).
Equipment you will need:
A slip collar or slip leash (will be provided and is included in the price).
A muzzle. (We have 3 different types available please contact us for a time to get fitted before the course starts so you have enough time to muzzle train before the course starts. Or buy from pet store. Please make sure it’s a basket muzzle and it’s fitted correctly. See this video for help with fitting:https://youtu.be/A73huSpL4GU )
Raised metal frame dog bed (no soft pillows),
Flat Collar & Training collar (Training collars are metal choker collars or pinch/prong collar. Type of collar is dependent on whether your dog is already pulling hard on a flat collar. If you have a small dog, like a Shitzu, Maltese or Dachshund that doesn’t pull on the leash much a flat collar might be fine as you will be getting a slip collar included anyway. No matter what collar you will use, the dog will learn quickly how to stay on a loose lead and will not hurt or choke themselves using any type of collar.
If you have a strong dog that pulls or you have injuries yourself or weak hands that mean you have difficulty holding your dog you must have a pinch/prong collar as this will give you a lot more control with a lot less effort. Our preferred Pinch/prong collar brand is a Herm Sprenger prong collar which you can buy with an easy release buckle or please contact us to see if we have any available to purchase as we sometimes have different brands of these collars at a discount rate. If you purchase a different brand of prong collar they are not to be sharp at all as this will hurt the dog and we will not allow you to use these. Please contact us for more information if your not sure what collar to use. )
Absolutely no harnesses are to be used in training as they are ineffective for necessary directional work.
Normal flat leash 1.6-1.8m long, no stretch bungee leashes. We have double handled ones available for sale at the course for $15.
A ball or tug with a rope, available on our products page if you need.
Lots of your dogs favourite treats. TOP TIP: we tend to use cheese (use low fat if you have a dog that gains weight easily). Cut cheese into small cubes and dried in the fridge as the smell is good to overide some environmental factors at the beginning of training.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ADD ON : OFF LEASH EXTRAS COURSE $280
Want total control of your off leash dog?
The Off Leash Extras course will allow you to have reliable control of your dog off leash in any situation. You will learn how to have competition level results. This course will automatically lead on from this course and runs for 3 weeks and we highly recommend you do this with your reactive dog. Everything you have learnt in the Reactive Course will be implemented and tested in high distraction environments and in close proximity to dogs and people. This is not a stand alone course for new clients and must be done in conjunction with the Reactive Course.
Equipment you will need:
All equipment you used in the Reactive Course and:
ET-300 Mini educator Remote Collar or Mini Educator FT-330 Finger Remote Collar (has a ring you can use as a controller).
We don’t really want you to use other brands as these are proven, tested, have a waterproof floating controller and collar, and work up to an 800m range! Some models come with a ring controller that is really easy and fast to use in an emergency.
